Puppy program: (4 ½ months - 6 months old)
Giving your puppy a good start can pay huge dividends later in life. Many new owners make the mistake of under socializing and under exposing their new puppies. It is our goal to give you the opportunity to give your new hunting partner the head start on his or her new career.
* Premium puppy food provided
* Basic obedience (walking on leash, here, sit (retrievers & spaniels only)
* Introduction to field
* Introduction to retrieving
* Introduction to birds
* Introduction to gun
* ($250 for two weeks)
Gun Dog training: (Retrievers)
This program generally takes 3-4 months depending on the trainee. We strongly feel that it is important to customize the program to the individual dog, not mold the dog to our program. Each dog learns at its individual pace as well as responding to different training techniques. Owners of the dog entering this program will discuss with the trainer what type of hunting they will mainly be doing (waterfowl or upland). It is a mistake by the trainer to assume that all retrievers will be primarily waterfowl dogs with a little upland hunting on the side. We have had many clients solely hunt upland birds with their retrievers.
*Rate: $600 per month. Included in this (Premium food (Purina Pro Plan), boarding, birds (pigeon, chukar, quail, ducks, pheasants). Not included in this is veterinary expenses.
Dogs completing this program with waterfowl emphasis will be expected to heel off leash, be steady in the blind, retrieve only when sent, retrieve through decoys, retrieve to hand, perform simple doubles, will quarter, flush and retrieve shot birds to hand.
Dogs that will be hunted on upland birds only will be expected to heel off leash, quarter the field, sit after the flush with whistle command, remain steady to flush and shot and retrieve to hand.
Gun Dog training: (Pointing Dogs)
This program generally takes 3-4 months depending on the trainee. We strongly feel that it is important to customize the program to the individual dog, not mold the dog to our program. Each dog learns at its individual pace as well as responding to different training techniques. Although the vast majority of pointing dogs are upland bird hunters only, there are some breeds that are suited for waterfowl hunting duties. This is why we inquire weather or not duck hunting will be part of the game plan.
*Rate: $600 per month. Included in this (Premium food (Purina Pro Plan), boarding, birds (pigeon, chukar, quail, ducks, pheasants). Not included in this is veterinary expenses.
Dogs completing this program will be expected to hunt boldly, cover suitable ground for a pointing dog, be steady on point, flush and most cases be steady to shot and retrieve shot birds. Dogs will be introduced to honoring and in most cases will be able to honor other dog on point when sighted.
Dogs that will be hunted on waterfowl will steady in the blind, retrieve through decoys and retrieve shot birds to hand.
